IMO Peru Trip
Spring 2022
From a competitive pool, I was one of thirteen International Medical Outreach members accepted onto a medical mission trip to Lima, Peru. Through this experience, I shadowed physicians, performed practice clinical exams, and observed different medical practices within healthcare. I was able to expand my cultural knowledge pertaining to how medicine is practiced in different countries. I will take this experience and use the information I obtained to further connect with my future patients, overall improving my patient-doctor relationships.

Holmes Regional Medical Center
Anesthesia Observer
As an observer at Holmes Regional Medical Center, I was taught the basics of open-heart surgery and a bypass machine by a cardiac surgeon. In addition, I shadowed two anesthesiologists, both obtained a pediatric fellowship (Dr. Lisa Lima MD & Dr. Natalie Butler MD). Through this experience, I learned the types of anesthesia administered to patients, when to fully paralyze a patient, how to perform epidurals on pregnant women, and how to anesthetize patients for MRIs and CT scans.
